You Got Served: How Big Your HoneyBaked Ham Should Be for Christmas Dinner

With just days left until the long awaited Christmas holiday (can you believe it?!), hopefully you've ironed out your plans already for what you'll be bringing to the dinner table.

If you are unsure of just how much food to serve up... here are a few tips from our HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville Crew about approximately how much ham you'll need for that special meal with your loved ones:

The typical rule of thumb that's worked well for nearly 3 decades of preparing HoneyBaked Hams is to calculate approximately 0.33 lbs. and multiply that by the number of guests you anticipate will be dining with you.

For example, if you plan to have half a dozen guests... Multiply 0.33 by the quantity in your dinner party (0.33 x 6), which would equal 1.98 lbs. You would need about 2 lbs. of ham total (excluding the weight of the ham bone) to feed all those hungry mouths! Two of our HoneyBaked Ham by the Slice packages come in convenient 1 lb. servings each, and are ideal for an intimate gathering of about 6 people.

If you plan to have more than half a dozen attendees, our HoneyBaked Mini Hams are a perfect fit. At 4 to 7 lbs. in total weight, these smaller versions of our signature entrees are great for up to 7 supper guests.

Expecting about a dozen ravenous visitors at your upcoming holiday festivity? No problem. Our HoneyBaked 8 to 10 lb. Hams should do just the trick. Choose from the lower end of the 8 lb. spectrum for up to 7 guests or select one of our robust 10 pounders, which feeds up to 14 people!

For a Christmas get together consisting of up to a score of dinner participants... why not go even bigger (yes, it IS possible with our HoneyBaked products)?! Our HoneyBaked 10 to 11 lb. Hams are just as lean, moist and flavorful and serve 15 to 20 friends and/or family members.

Now that you exactly which size you need, place your order TODAY so you can check just one more thing off your to-do list for the holidays.

To reserve your HoneyBaked Ham for pickup at our Douglasville location CLICK HERE or contact us NOW at: (770) 489-1500.

Here's to serving up the most special, savory classic this holiday!

Rising to the Occasion: 5 Special Occasions Made Better with HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville Catering

Ah, the mark of summer is winding down quickly... especially with that last barbecue, a final barefoot walk on the beach or that warm, concluding outdoor stargaze of the year.

While end-of-season gatherings are very common, you shouldn't have to spend all your time in the kitchen preparing for them.

That's why having fully prepared meals available for your guests (without putting in all the work) is ideal... especially if you want to spend more time celebrating with friends and family.

Here are 5 special occasions where ordering catered meals from HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville is best for kicking off  the fall season:

1. Labor Day (September 1st)
Traditionally, Labor Day is known as the official end-of-summer holiday. Everyone wants to serve something special for their friends and family to enjoy, but may not have the time to cook in time for the fall festivities to begin. No worries, picking up delicious, locally prepared meals is your answer and the HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville crew will provide you with everything you need for this celebration!

2. Eat an Extra Dessert Day (September 4th)
It may sound like just an ordinary day, but September 4th can actually be justified as your one big day to indulge... since it's National Eat an Extra Dessert Day! Be sure and drop by HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville to experience all the wonderful desserts we offer from Blueberry Coffee Cakes to Peach Round Cakes to Mini Key Lime Pies to Cheesecakes... to even our most decadent brownie and cookie confections (how heavenly does that sound?!).

3. National Grandparents Day (September 7th):
The first week of September is a perfect opportunity to show our appreciation for our parents' parents (or close relatives who spoiled us like we were their real grandchildren). Celebrate this National Grandparents Day by either inviting your wise elders for lunch or dinner at HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville or better yet-- call in an order from our catering menu and enjoy it at home, where everyone can be around to celebrate with you!

4. Oktoberfest (September 21st):
Don’t let the word “Oktober” fool you-- In reality, this 16-day-long occasion starts in late September rather than the tenth month of the year! HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville is always available to provide you with the tasty selections of gourmet fare you'll need to put on your own Oktoberfest at home. Just call us or visit our website to have your catering needs met (as well as delivered) while focusing on the true meaning of this German event with friends and family!

5. Boss’s Day (October 16th):

National Boss's Day offers employees the fabulous opportunity to acknowledge those who uphold supervisory position at our place of work. Sure, some common ways to show our gratitude are:
- giving him/her a card signed by the entire office staff,
- organizing a group lunch affair at a restaurant in the boss’s honor (although this can be a bit expensive)
- sending flowers or a gift certificate to the 'Head Honcho' of your organization.

The easiest way, however, to show your boss how much you care is by ordering up a big ol' catered lunch from HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville that the whole workforce can enjoy on the premises. Our selections of meats for our party trays, box lunches and sandwiches (along the best desserts around, might we remind you) will leave everyone's mouths wanting more!

No matter the occasion, all our catered meals are fully prepared fresh for pickup or can be delivered to your location just in time for any special event. We offer a wide selection of meat and sandwich trays, succulent sides, and delicious desserts (in case we haven't mentioned the sweets already!).

Thinking Outside the Lunchbox: HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville 's Top 4 Kid-Friendly Options

Are we there yet? Yes, we are... at HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville , that is!

Summertime is almost over, which means our children are once again who headed back to school in the next couple of weeks (or may have just resumed classes this week).

As parents we know the most important reason for getting back in the classroom isn't always about our kids improving their memorization skills or bringing home exceptional grades we can brag to our neighbors about (although those are both wonderful)... It's also about our young ones learning a lesson or two from their elders so they can become much wiser and more disciplined as adults, right?

Here's some inspiration for all you moms & dads out there from a couple of history's greatest thinkers:

The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.” --Sydney J. Harris

Wisdom is not a product of schooling, but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.” --Albert Einstein

For the kiddos on the other hand, going back to school (for the most part) means new clothes, shoes, supplies, newer friends and maybe even a new menu from the school cafeteria (yikes!).

So in light of all things education, our HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville crew would like to showcase some of our yummy, kid-friendly lunch options available.

Check out our 4 most popular kids' sandwiches:

1. Turkey & Cheese Finger Food Sandwich
(Cut up into small pieces for little hands)
Made from smoked turkey breast, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and our famous Savory Mayo or Honey Mustard. Served on your child's choice of bread, such as white or wheat. Can be toasted if desired. Includes a zesty bag of chips, a crisp pickle spear and a kid-sized drink.

2. Ham & Cheese Finger Food Sandwich
(also cut into small pieces for little hands)
Prepared using our own freshly glazed cuts of HoneyBaked Ham along with Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and a smudge of our Savory Mayo or Honey Mustard. Can also be made with your kid's favorite type of bread and served toasted. Also accompanied by a perfectly portioned bag of chips, a crunchy pickle spear and a kid-sized drink.

3. PB & J Sandwich
Just like Grandma makes it... Two slices of soft sourdough (or any other pick from our bread variety) slathered with a smooth & creamy peanut butter and a good glob o' grape jelly. This classic can is even more enjoyable when toasted to perfection. Also bundled with a charming bag of chips, a petite lil' pickle spear and a kid-sized drink.

4. Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Parents love this classic just as much as their kids do: Generous slices of cheddar cheese stacked between your favorite bread and toasted to a beautiful golden brown. Just like our other children's menu options, this grilled delight is served fresh with a bag of chips to chomp on, a pickle spear to savor at the end and a kid-sized drink to wash down all the goodness.

Everyone knows how wonderful and fulfilling a HoneyBaked Ham can be during the holidays... but it can also be enjoyed during the school year, especially by our kids.

Stop in at HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville with those young scholars of yours TODAY to enjoy a good ol' "sammich" and maybe a dessert too (if they behave).

Our freshness is guaranteed, but those headaches caused by screaming children in the background may NOT be!

Nice Rack! HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville Introduces NEW BBQ Ribs

Summer is all about barbecues and grilling anything you love "on the barbie" by the poolside.

For many of us who have such busy schedules (even on weekends) and little time to cook, your worries are over because your friends at HoneyBaked Ham have a NEW product you're sure to love just as much as our famous hams... and it's just in time for summer: HoneyBaked BBQ Ribs

1. Memorial Day.
Memorial Day just isn't Memorial Day without the BBQ, especially if you're having a picnic gathering at a local parks or in your own backyard. No need to spend hours preparing, smoking, turning, etc. with a rack o' ribs from your local supermarket... just pick up a rack from us HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville so you can spend less time in front of the grill and more time with your loved ones on this special day of remembrance.

2.Father’s Day.

Some of us never know what to get Dad for Father’s Day, right? Sure, there are a lot of wonderful, highly recommended ideas for World's Best Dad, like tools for him to use in his workshop or even a new grilling contraption (isn't it just so overwhelming?!). Well since most Dads love to grill, why not reward him with something that makes him feel like he's in heaven, with a rack of our new HoneyBaked BBQ Ribs (trust us, it's a brilliant idea)?!

3. A Close Friend or Relative’s Birthday.

Okay so you were invited to a childhood friend’s (or perhaps a close relative's) birthday party, and you just don’t have the time to prepare something good for what you heard was going to a potluck gathering. No sweat! Just swing by HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville and grab yourself a couple of pounds of our finger-lickin' good BBQ ribs and you are set to go. Oh and, don’t forget the dessert while you're at it (our gourmet pecan pie should do the trick)!

4. Graduation Celebrations.

Again, you were invited to another potluck celebration (this time it's a graduation party for an old friend’s son who just completed four grueling years of high school in your hometown). Somebody else will be taking care of the drinks, so your chore is to bring something meaty and delicious to add some heartiness to the party. In this type of scenario it can't get any better than showing up with a couple of pounds of our delicious HoneyBaked BBQ Ribs for all the graduation guests to enjoy (not to mention satisfy their appetites).

5. End-of-Summer Gatherings.
There always seems to be some sort of special occasion with more people to entertain towards the end of summer, right? And if you're like us, you would rather spend time actually visiting with your friends & relatives during these last few days of the season instead of cooking (or accidentally burning!) the food you're serving. If you had our HoneyBaked BBQ Ribs to serve, however, you could spend more time entertaining friends and relatives while leaving the cooking to somebody else!

There's a multitude of special occasions and summer festivities going on right now, and we want you to spend more time enjoying it, rather than preparing for it. So swing by our HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville store TODAY and pick up a "nice rack," why don't ya?!

A Wing-Wing Situation: HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville Celebrates National Turkey Lovers' Month

Turkey. An estimated 46 million turkeys are consumed during Thanksgiving Day... But guess what?!

It's not only for Thanksgiving Dinner anymore. Many of you may not be aware of this, but did you know June is National Turkey Lovers' Month?!

According to the Virginia Department Of Consumer Services, this month is an absolutely ideal time to celebrate the delicious taste, versatility, high quality nutrition and cooking ease of one of their state's top products. Here are a few more interesting facts about this bird worth talkin' about at the water cooler throughout June:

- They may be known for their corn fields, but the state of Iowa is also home to more than 10.5 million turkeys, and ranks ninth nationally in turkey production.

- The impact of raising and processing turkeys on Iowa’s economy is so huge that it generates more than $1.5 billion every year.

- The turkey industry generates significant economic activity and employment opportunities in many states, according to the Director of the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers.

- Turkey Lovers' Month is a great time to fire up the grill and enjoy that great taste of turkey made possible by the farm families who had worked hard to put it on the tables across the country.

- Turkey can be served in a variety of ways for each meal of the day. It is definitely high in protein, which is important for building lean muscle mass and staying active. In fact, a three-ounce serving of boneless, skinless turkey breast contains a whopping 26 grams of protein, with only one gram of fat and ZERO saturated fat.

Here are some of the classic (and delicious!) turkey products from your friends at HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville we recommend you try in light of Turkey Lovers' Month:

· Glazed HoneyBaked Smoked or Roasted Turkey Breast

God Bless HAM-merica: HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville & The True Meaning of Memorial Day

If you were asked what Memorial Day was about, what would your answer be (don't worry, many of us would be uncertain of our response)?

Most of us may simply say Memorial Day is a three-day weekend for family and friends to get together and have a picnic or hang out at the beach. In a way, this answer is correct, because that's how most Americans view this holiday!

The actual origin of this national holiday (which used to be known as Decoration Day), however, dates way back to the mid-1800s after the Civil War-- Many men died so brutally during the Civil War that people were looking for ways to honor the those who died fighting.

Families of fallen soldiers in Pennsylvania began visiting the burial sites of deceased soldiers to place flowers at their graves, and word of this honorary gesture quickly spread down to the south into Mississippi, where women started doing the same.

On May 5th, 1868 General John Logan made Memorial Day an official day of remembrance where flowers where placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery-- And that's how this holiday came about.

Now that you've received your history lesson for the day...

Here are 3 great ideas to celebrate YOUR Memorial Day:

1. Attend a Parade.

Many small towns and communities have annual parades for Memorial Day. Wear the best red, white & blue outfit you can get your hands on and pack yourself some snacks (like sandwiches from your friends at HoneyBaked Ham Douglasvilleto share with friends or loved ones after the parade.

2. Have a Picnic.
Picnics are very popular on Memorial Day. Every year after decorating the graves of veterans, thousands of veteran families typically gather at a local park and have a large picnic together. Again, here’s an opportunity to celebrate traditions by bringing something that has been part of our family during the holidays: a delicious meal with all your favorite fixins HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville !

3. Host A BBQ Potluck.
Why not have your family & friends gather at your house and host a BBQ potluck?! Everyone could bring a least one food item (or the beverages) when they show up at your house.  And if you really want to serve up something that’s guaranteed to get everyone excited about your potluck party, have a big' ol turkey or a juicy HoneyBaked Ham along with your BBQ staples. These succulent main course options alone will definitely seal the success of your food gathering (how could it not)?!

So no matter how you choose to spend your 3-day weekend this year, make HoneyBaked Ham a part of it... You won't be disappointed.

Here's to a marvelous Memorial Day celebration with family and friends!

Eat, Drink & Be Wary: Easily Enhance Your Events with HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville Catering

When it comes to conducting business or hosting a special event... We should, as the saying goes (sort of), "eat, drink & be wary."

What we at HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville mean by this, is that it's super important to make sure your gathering (no matter whether it's for business or leisure) should always have the best type of eats & drinks for attendees to enjoy. What's the best way to do this?

By having your event catered by HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville (of course)! Here are 4 special occasions for which we'd love to be a part of:

1. OFFICE MEETINGS

Your main goal is to keep everyone alert, happy and focused--but even that plan can go wrong quickly...simply by serving up a so-so midday meal! Make sure your lunch choice reflects just how much you care with our HoneyBaked Ham boxed lunches or our robust meat & cheese platters. The "make-your-own-sammich" option not to mention our delicious varieties of chips and yes... freshly baked cookies!) can easily cut the boredom out of your hours-long huddle... so much so that your attendees might even think it’s a celebration rather than just a meeting of the minds!

2. BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Surprise! Ever been invited to a birthday party during that time of day when you were expecting some good food to eat (especially because you showed up with an empty stomach)... only to discover there was nothing at the table to indulge in besides bowls of jelly beans and store-bought cupcakes?! Yikes. The best way a "hostess with the mostest" can bring some life into a party that everyone can enjoy is a bountiful spread of HoneyBaked Ham in place of those sugar-laden snacks at the kids' table. Sure, the cupcakes may be a birthday staple, but instead of traditional pizza or other typical party foods, a generous helping of HoneyBaked Ham on everyone's paper plate can be just what the party needs!

3. FAMILY GATHERINGS
Cooking a meal for a large group (like a family reunion or neighborhood picnic) takes lots of planning (and stamina!). The most common comestibles brought to these events are usually some sort of potluck staples... which, of course, can be the cheapest and easiest way to feed a crowd. But instead of deviled eggs or BBQ weenies in a crockpot, how 'bout this idea: A HoneyBaked Ham, fully cooked, pre-sliced and ready to serve any time of the day... Serve up one of these and you're sure to be the talk of the entire gathering, even after the food is gone. And for those of us with very little time to prepare anything because of our work schedules, now there's simply no need to worry because you can always pre-order by calling us ahead of time!

4. WEDDING RECEPTIONS
Hosting a wedding reception can be a complex task if you're not accustomed to serving "the masses," but it can turn out to be fun when all the ingredients you need are easily and readily available. One easy way of getting all of this together efficiently is to have your reception catered by our HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville crew. Having hassle-free, yet special food like ours for everyone to eat could even make the reception just as memorable to guests as it was for the bride and groom (because no one ever seems to remember what they ate when they attend this type of event anymore)!

Let's face it. Everyone knows how wonderfully fulfilling HoneyBaked Ham can be during the holidays... but that shouldn't be the only time people can appreciate our festive fare. So if you have a special occasion that's right around the corner, but still have not decided what to do about the dining portion of your event... Contact us at HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville to place your catered order TODAY (headaches not included).

Now we can all officially eat, drink & be wary merry!

Wham Bam Thank You, HAM: Our Top 5 Mother's Day Gift Ideas

We all know that Moms are pretty much the most special people we can ever have in our lives... and guess what??

Mother’s day is just around the corner (at least pretend you had it marked on your calendar)!

So this weekend when Moms are commemorated nationwide, why not be sure you give your ol' lady something that best reflects our appreciation for all they do?!

As true angels on this earth we already know... Mothers are typically not that choosy when it comes to presents (remember that art piece you made out of macaroni noodles as a child in grade school?!), so just about any gift which shows your love and gratitude will be well-recognized.

Still not sure what to give her? Here are the Top 5 Mother’s Day Gift Ideas from your HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville crew:

1. A Bouquet of Roses
This is probably one of the best gifts you can ever give to your mom, because these bold & beautiful buds are famous for conveying love and appreciation to someone special in your life. For that extra special touch, have your gift bouquet personalized with wrappings in Mom's favorite colors, along with a handwritten note or card with your own genuine message.

2. A Homemade Dinner Featuring Mom's Favorite Recipe
Usually our mothers occupy the kitchen for hours on end in order to prepare something wonderful for us. This time, why not surprise her with a homemade dinner using one of her all-time favorite recipes? Nothing beats a gift you have prepared all by yourself (although we recommend you ask for some help from siblings or other family members if you are not such a wonderful cook)!

3. A Pampering Gift Basket
It's a given--Women love to be pampered, especially when it's a chance to take a break from doing all the work at home. Taking care of your family is a big task... and it's a lot of work for Mom (which of course, is very tiring). So a good gift of "pamper yourself" products basket filled with scented candles, invigorating lotions, soothing bath salts and moisturizing soaps can be a perfect way to show your love for Mom!

4. A Store-Bought Mother’s Day Card
Sure... actions still speak louder than words, but sometimes express our feelings in the form of words in order to be better understood. If you're not the crafty type and can't create your own Mother’s Day card, a store-bought version is your next best choice. All you'll have to do is just write down your heartfelt message on the inside, and surely... Mom will be delighted.

5. A Holiday Meal Favorite: HoneyBaked Ham
Yes, one can never go wrong with a gift that's delicious enough for your whole family to enjoy (in other words, a marvelous main course from HoneyBaked Ham Douglasville ). Mother’s Day generally prompts close friends and members of your family to celebrate at the same gathering... So, why not be the star of the whole celebration by giving her a freshly glazed ham?

Call us partial to this holiday, but we think option #5 on our list is definitely the best way to go. Stop by and see us (and get your Mother's Day gift shopping out of the way already)!

Here's wishing a very Happy Mother's Day to all!
